It starts up with a giant W (which fills with blue) then the desktop comes up it has nothing on it and you can not put icons on it try and they come up on the dock at the top is the dock and it doesn’t hide or magnify (that’s as annoying as a large well… something) at the bottom is (on the left) another dock this one shows what programs are running and what files you have open on the right is all the icons (like volume and stuff) and the controls for the music that’s playing. open a window and be surprised for there’s no background all your files and toolbars just hang there unsupported you can tint the window a little but yeah also the file names and any text just hangs there (except on open office writer) also the text is tinted opposite to your desktop any windows behind the current one get hidden unseen behind the current (active) window until you either topple (restore down) or hide (minimize) the window it comes with all the open source software (vlc portable, gimp, open office, firefox, etc. etc.) and all the software I might write. It is also compatible with all (hopefully) linux, mac and maybe windows ‘exe’s (maybe not windows (viruses and stuff))
And that’s just the beginning! Sound good to you?
Can some help me maybe give me their email?
Oh and what programming language should I use I’m ok at BASIC but that’s not advanced enough is it? I have a book about c++ but maybe that’s too advanced? Maybe java?
And (p.s.) what license should I release it under I want it to be free but it’s not got a GNU kernel so yeah should I write my own license perhaps?
should i make it work with winndows .exe’s or not? it’s gonna need a lot of graphics aye!

Would anybody like to help me build this office building?

It’s gonna be really big (the biggest in the world) It will be blue, and the carpets will be red. I’m going to have doors and windows and stuff, and when you walk in the building, the names of the companies will float automatically in front of you.

I’ve never really made a building before, and I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to do this. I’m not an architect or an engineer. I don’t know how to build a weight-supporting structure, how to manage heating, cooling, electricity or safety features. I don’t know anything about the legal implications, zoning, or real estate. All I’m really sure about is the cosmetic stuff like the colors in the halls. -and I’m not exactly sure how to do that either.

…but I do have a Bob the Builder construction set.

How hard can it be?

Seriously, get yourself a copy of Ubuntu. You can modify it to do everything you want. If you’re even wondering if BASIC is appropriate for an operating system, you’re not ready to take this on.

Hi. A quick background, and I’ll be on my way. Every since I got my first computer some odd years back (10+), I’ve been overly interested with them. I know pretty much how to gut them and put them back together due to just ripping it apart. I’m fairly well at putting anything together I take apart.

Anyway, I lost interest in pretty much everything. Now I’m interested in too much. I want to do everything from installing hardware, making PCBs, CAD, learning the in’s and out’s of various applications and operating systems, programming for software as well as the web; it’s just too much for one person to learn. Well, at least all at once. So I am asking where I should probably start, and how I should go about it.

I do not have a ton of funds at the moment; as I am sure many of you have noticed, the economy is shot. Anyway. I am not for piracy; regardless of what media and/or content is being pirated (e.g. music, movies, software, etc). I like free stuff, just as most people do. I want to take what I learn and apply it to help everyone. As an example; if I spent 5 years of my life creating an operating system I would still let others use it freely, as well as grant GPL rights. Not everyone has $ XXX.XX to pay for that top notch software.

My main objective at the moment, at least I think/feel that it is, is to learn how to create a website from the ground up. I want to be able to make multi-page sites with wiki, forums, a chat, blog, private tracker (yes, for torrents, but only for freeware alternatives) etc. I want to set it up so that I may let others register, as certain this would need to be moderated, as well as credit given. I need to know enough so that I can setup analyst, ads for supporting it, possible PayPal or comparable for donations. If you think I’m contradicting myself, you don’t know the difference in donation and required payment. I’ve donated a bit, it’s always nice to help someone who does something worth while. (Rambling on… Sorry.) Anyway. Answering the very basic question at hand will do, but if you know of the exact languages I will need to learn, programs to make layouts or to learn the skills required, books, etc I will appreciate any such information. Also, please don’t say something stupid like “Google it”, any variant or similarity. I search a lot, and have found a bit of information, but some of it is a little advance and not for a beginner. Thank you. I apologize for any errors, etc.

PS – If you do not know what freeware or GPL is, you should just Google it real quick. Not contradicting myself.

Well, it’s nice 2 c Radiohead get recognition from the Recordin’ Academy again. & it’s also nice 2 c a “diverse” collection of rock nominees, from alternative (Radiohead; Coldplay) to mainstream (AC/DC) to modern (Kings of Leon) to soft rock (Eagles). If you watched the American Music Awards 2 mos. ago, u wooda noticed the legendary rock band was nomin8d for a buncha Dick Clark’s paperw8s but I don’t think they won once. Considering that a lotta people have many critical things 2 say about the Grammys, notably when it comes to the rock category, I will not b surprised w/ who wins this one (except for maybe Kings of Leon). I’d also be surprised if they televise this category, in other words, we get 2 c the winner accept the Grammy instead of viewing the winner @ the bottom of the screen. Hell, if the Eagles win, I can only wonder if this the Recording Academy’s “screw u” 2 not only the commercial masses but also the critics. (Does Rolling Stone think “Long Road Out of Eden” sucks?) Who do I wish 2 c win? Well, I could pick Radiohead for my sister’s sake, but although she’s a Radiohead fan, she thinks the Grammys suck, 2. AC/DC sounds like a interesting choice 2 win. But if I were to place a million Zimbabwean dollars on this category, I’d bette on Coldplay. (4 those of u who haven’t been watching the gnus, you’d no that a million Zimbabwean dollars still ain’t enough 2 buy a 2-liter Pepsi.}

So who do you like? Any Eagles fans who like their gnu stuff? Who thinks there are Eagles likelier to win Super Bowl XLIII than any of their four Grammy nominations? What about you Kings of Leon fans? The 51st Grammys take place February 8 on CBS.
